1.) No Horsemanship is 'natural' it is a marketing term used by
humans to suck in other
humans in an attempt to appeal to
human emotions. I am still waiting for the day when some new natural horse trainer comes out with a book detailing how you train a wild horse in the middle of nowhere in Montana or wherever with no equipment, no restraints and without actually touching the horse or impinging on its freedom in any way. Now that might be closer to natural horsemanship.
2.) All horse training requires subjugation on some level, it's just the way you go about it that differs.
3.) I am pretty sure Monty Roberts doesn't refer to
himself as a natural horseman or use the phrase natural horsemanship in any of his training material, that is a label that people have given HIM.
Of course, not everyone agrees with his methods and I respect that, just a few points in your post that I wanted to address.
