I gave lessons to some kids down the street for about a month, in which time the kids progressively grew more impatient about the basics of riding and wanted to get right into the 'fun stuff'- like trying to barrel race and do pole bending. No sooner did they get bored than the parents stopped having me do riding lessons.

These same people call me out every now and then to load a horse into the trailer when it refuses or 'train' the horse how to do something that it suddenly won't do. I can see that they are spoiling their horses at every turn- let them get away with anything and everything. They bribe their horses with grain to get them to do everything.

What should I do about this? I feel that this is a blatant slap in the face, not only for my own training skills but for the well-being of their horses. They will end up spoiled rotten with vices that will not get fixed because of their owners ignorance. I am thinking about refusing any further aid until they accept some real help either in learning about training or in hiring someone competent who can be there with their kids.
Follow your instincts! "I am thinking about refusing any further aid until they accept some real help either in learning about training or in hiring someone competent who can be there with their kids." Perfect, and well said. :)

Unfortunately you can't do anything.... They aren't your horses. Sad, but true. If I were you I'd cut my ties with them.

Yup, exactly. I've seen some nice horses with people I wouldn't sell a carcass too, but their life, their horses, their decisions.
Walk away and hope for the best.
