Hello! I don't really have anything important to say or ask lol but I just wanted to share that I rode Max for the first time today!! It was awesome. We think he was a former barrel racer because the only way he knows to trot (for know) is this like super quick run. He also does not like contact on the bit. We lunged him first and I plan on doing that a lot in the weeks to come! He needs to build up some muscle. Here are some pictures!

Hi guys! Just wanted to give another update... First I just wanted to say how thankful I am for all of you guys!! I was looking back through all my old posts, and it really was this site that got me volunteering -- leading to my horse! :) You guys have helped me exponentially and I am so grateful..

So we're now in the 3rd month of owning Max... Feels like it's been forever. :) I forget who it was that said this, but he totally did change a month in. Luckily there are some great people at the barn and we've worked through it. He is a little more "spooky" than we first thought, but I am learning to manage it.. It also depends on how upset he is that day that he's away from his "girlfriend" (who hates him... lol). I started riding him totally English but now I'm using an endurance saddle (on loan from our trainer -- buying it soon probably), and our trainer made up an english hackamore. I'm now able to get a nice trot out of him... We both just need to build up some stamina!! He lunges really well and I'm finally able to get him going on both sides well. There was a while that he wouldn't go to one side. We finally got him to after like 30 mins, and he had a big limp at the trot. But as of last weekend he is totally sound and happy to go either way! I'm having trouble getting a canter/lope (I know it as canter... Max probably knows lope lol) while I'm riding. My trainer comes out every Tuesday though (I haven't seen her in like a month thanks to weather..) so we can maybe work on that tomorrow.

It's so interesting that I thought we'd be doing english together, and now I'm actually looking at doing some local western summer shows at our western riders club! He does great with neck reining, and as I'm just riding for pleasure currently, I see no reason to teach him otherwise for now.

I am sooo happy with him... I know some people say horses don't "love" people, they just respect/trust them... But I feel like he does love me :) Sometimes he just touches his head to my arm and closes his eyes. (maybe he's just tired lol but I think it's cute)

Thank you guys so much for your help... :) I've come so far since I joined this time last year! Going to try and upload some pictures...

These three are from today... Getting him ready for my senior pictures :)

Make sure to get a vet check done.
Any horses coming from The Camelot Auctions are very likely to have mild but very contagious illnesses. Make sure to get his vaccines and worming done NOW! Other than that I'm sure everyone will give their input and you should be well on your way to becoming a horse owner CONGRATULATIONS!

TOTALLY missed your thread in January! Congratulations! Have LOTS of fun with your gelding. Ask us ANYTHING and we'll try our best to help out. Horses get better the more time you spend with them, so wear him out this summer. =D
