Unfortunately he has no pasture access. We're trying to buy a house with irrigated land so if we can make that happen, he'll have that. We'll be buying within the next couple months.

I do think his teeth need to be done, like yesterday. I've resigned myself to having one of the local vets do it, but the current one wanted to get his health issues under control first. He has a mild resp. infection and apparently a mild case of anhidrosis (sp?). I'm on pins and needles awaiting bloodwork results and hoping there isn't anything worse going on.

There's one more vet I've heard recommended and I'd like to have her out to do an estimate on the teeth. Maybe *she'll* be willing to get it done, and fast. She is a pain management expert too and he's definitely a happier boy since he's been getting bute.

Thanks all!

Thought I'd update on the "old man." LOL We've been able to increase his exercise a bit...very light riding at a quick walk (he sets the pace...can't seem to walk slowly) every other day with light lunging/groundwork on the days off. The belly does seem to be slimming down! And we're only doing 20-30 minutes with the exercise, so taking it slow.

I slowly reduced the Sr. feed amount to about half of what it was and I'm using up the last of the beet pulp shreds this week, slowly adding in the soaked alfalfa/bermuda pellets which I'll be changing out to alfalfa cubes. I'm still giving him the Sho Flex, Omega HS and Vitality. Plan to add the rice bran pellets once I'm out of beet pulp.

He still nibbles at his actual alfalfa hay all day...he finds all the flowers and tender stalks and eats those first, leaving the rest for snacking. :)

Added a pan of loose mineralized salt since he doesn't touch his red block. He licks his himalayan block but not much...planning to pick up a white block.

He's seeing the farrier today and I'm going to have the newest "new" vet come out after Friday (pay day...husband is going to strangle me when he sees how much $$ I've pulled from our emergency fund for this horse LOL) to hopefully get those teeth floated!
