Lease Horse

Hi I live in Western Australia and I'm thinking about leasing a horse, what sort of things should I buy, good brands, advice? Any good tack shops besides Horseland and Europa Saddlery in Perth? Any help would be much appreciated.

Not sure about Western Australia, but across Australia there are mainly Horselands and Saddleworlds, with a few independent places.

Horseland is closely partnered (owned even?) with Bates (incl Wintec, Weatherbeeta, Dublin) and they have a lot of their products, and some other select brands and products. In comparison, Saddleworld has the products they stock plus each individual store might have their own products and ranges they choose to stock, so you tend to get a larger variety. Besides googling, if you join a local riding club, or keep your horse somewhere, ask them about the places they shop. Also, ask at your local feed stores, they may also know.

It's hard to advise brands when we don't know what you want? What sort of things are you looking for?

Sorry I should've been more specific, I'm interested in buying the basic essentials such as a halter and leadrope, saddle blankets, grooming items, etc. Good bonding activities? I've known my potential lease horse well pony for around a year and have had lessons on her for the past term.

I can't help with Perth specific but try online for some of the basics! There is alot of online stores that are often cheaper than Horseland and Saddleworld.

I know there is quite a few Facebook groups that have taken off selling good second hand items too. I have picked up a few odds and ends.

I can't help with brands - but I've founds its best to go with the mid range items because the cheap stuff never works as well or lasts as long.

buy a halter, lead rope, all the different type of grooming items such as hoofpick, curry comb, hard brush, soft brush, face brush, tail comb (you can usually buy these items in a pack/deal) get anything you may need to keep on the horse, like a day sheet, fly mask(depends on the horse) any items of tack, saddle, bridle, stirrup irons, boots for the horse if needed, breastplate if needed, lunging gear, saddle pad, any feed needed, just anything you can think of really that is needed.

There is only a few other tack shop I can think of one is Nagmart in Maddington. I haven't been there in a few years though, I usually go to Horseland in Perth but now finding that they don't have much stock and take a long time to order stuff in so I find that I'm going to Horseland in Maddington now.
My saddle came from Saddles Plus Perth which is in Byford, very good quality stuff there. Too much of a trek for me though to get there.
If you are one facebook try Buy/Sell Horses and Tack Western Australia, great for second hand stuff and tack shack is another online tack shop based in QLD.
Equipment just what is stated above and it depends on what is included in the lease. I brought my horse a couple of months ago and just buy when I need something really. I love visiting tack shops my guilty pleasure lol
