Luckily, when I started 4-h last year it was from my best friend making me join, so I kind of met people instantly.

Now me, I'm not a shy person at all. You can't get me to shut up.

I will and can pretty much just ride up next to someone and start a conversation. If you see someone sitting alone or a group of people just walk up and say "hi, I'm kind of new" or something like that. People in 4-h are so helpful. Now if you were at our 4-h practices our leaders would announce you are there and make sure you get friends. There are actually a ton of guys all ages in ours. We have some pretty funny kids in our 4-h, so most of the time we are laughing.

Just don't be scared, maybe come up with a question and ask another rider it.

Don't limit yourself just to guys... Make friends with the girlies.

I have friends that are girls that ride, but they don't do 4-h. Also 1 more thing is my 4-h club has 1 other rider in it.

Just go anywhere there are horses, shows, trail rides, etc. You'll be like a magnet, I promise, lol. They'll start conversations with you.

Never failed, if there was a guy in 4-H or at an open show or trail ride, it didn't matter if no one knew him, the girls and subsequently there guy friends soon introduced themselves.

That's how I met my husband;)

Do you guys have 4-h Practices at all?

Here we have 'Prepare For the Fair', so every Monday night every horse project member in the county can bring their horse and last monday we had gaming practice, the week before it was Western Pleasure, this monday we are having a mock show.

Maybe 20 people go, when there is almost 70 in the fair.

I understand how you must feel. I only have two riding friends. Both are older than me, one being over 40 years older than me! I met them as boarders at my new barn.

You're in a great position to meet new people by being in 4-h and going to shows. I would start out with some small talk. Ask them about their horse. Girls LOVE talking about their horses. Lol That's so me...
Also, you could ask about upcoming competitions or even ask if you all would be interested in going for a hack sometime. I used to be shy. My best advice is start small. Plan ahead of time some situations and things you could talk about. It may be nerve-racking at first, but it gets easier! Before you know it, you'll be able to talk to anyone at any time without thinking ahead of time about things you could say.
