My dream is finally coming true.
I have spent my entire life watching horses, learning about horses, buying EVERY book about horses, begging to go to lessons... I took every chance I could get to even look at them because to me they were the entire world. I begged for riding lessons, but having a mom that is afraid of horses meant I didn't get into them until I was 16, which felt very late starting at the time. I am 20 years old now, and finally making the big step.
I recently moved, and before the move I had no chance whatsoever of owning my own horse. It was a city with expensive boarding and barns that were almost exclusively stall-boarding, which I've never been a fan of. I couldn't afford a horse, and even if I could, it wouldn't be the life I would want for one.
In our new town, however, I am a 10 minute drive from the most beautiful boarding place I could dream of! 40 acres of open pasture with trees around the edges for shade, and right on the ocean. (The views are stunning!) I started visiting the 18 horses there with no real goal except enjoying their company, and soon found myself interested in the little mare that I had been informed was for sale.
Her name is Angel, and she's the sweetest little black mare you've ever seen! I fell in love with her immediately.
Sadly, Angel's owners had left her to her own devices and have not bothered with her in years. (They haven't even visited her.) She's rarely been handled recently and certainly not ridden, although she was in the past. Despite this, she walks to me in the pasture, stands still (untied in the pasture!) while being groomed, falls asleep while I scratch behind her ears, and is an all around well-mannered horse.
I have big plans for this pretty nine/ten year old, and I'm very excited to get started on my life with her. She already recognizes me and trots to me in the pasture when I walk in!
With no further ado, here's my beautiful new girl.
