Molasses kind of... Burst?

I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right spot but it's the only place I figured made a bit of sense?

Anyway so I bought some molasses yesterday for my horse. It came in a 2 litre milk bottle and was filled about halfway up the handle, so there was a bit of space at the top. Anyway in the car I had it on my lap, opened it once or twice for no particular reason, but the weird thing is after I while I looked down at it and it was filled to the brim. So I open the cap and have a look. Sure enough it's sitting right in the neck of the bottle. So I close it again and as we get closer to home the sides bulge a bit. Once I'm inside I take the cap off and the molasses just comes pouring out the top. I put it in the sink and lost a bit down the edges before I transferred some to another container. So now in both containers the molasses is a lighter brown and I can see tiny air bubbles all through it. Does anyone know what happened here?
It still smells the same but I'm slightly concerned about giving it to my horse now.

When molasses gets heated up, it expands, gets bubbly and pours different. Just like the expression...."As slow as molasses in January". Your molasses is fine, use it.

Yes, liquids expand when heated. I agree that may be the case you have. And while the molasses is fine to use, why use it?

I've learned a lot about sugars and horses here, and glad I have!

Thank you! That makes sense as it was slightly cold when I got it and it got quite warm in the car.

Thanks I think it is that. I only use a tiny bit twice a month
To mask some supplements. She won't eat it otherwise! I've tried other things but most she doesn't like or don't properly hide the taste/smell. *sigh* She's a tricky one. Thanks! :)
