Sell/Keep ??? -Opinions Needed-

I acquired this horse 2 falls ago, she was given to me because her owner didn't have time for her and knew that me and her fit really well together. Well before she was given to me she was accidentally bred. She ended up producing a stunning filly that I was going to sell as a weanling but then I realized I could use it as a training project for 4-h. My neighbor who I'm really close to; he could be mistaken for my grandpa we are that close always talks about Storm (horse I acquired), he hates her guts and always tells my mom I need to sell her and stuff. I kind of got convinced also but found different reasons such as- I'm 5'8 (and growing) and I look at bit big on her, and she knows her games but would just like to canter them not run them. I've had her up for over 2 months and have got a zillion phones calls but only one person has came and looked.

The filly, named Twista, I really love. Not just because she is a cute little foal but she has a nice build to her and has a really nice disposition unlike her sister. I can use her as a training project for 4-h plus she is half Thoroughbred which I really like.

Storm... she has had a rough life. But a little background...
Age: 11ish
Breed: Arab X ??? (People have suggested everything from Appy, Morgan, QH, TB)
Height: Just under 15.1hh
Her first owner was a very hard handed person. Always jerked on her and so forth where now whenever you lead her she has her ears pinned back, not threatening just saying she doesn't enjoy it. She is the only horse I love to ride bareback. We found out that she knows Barrels, Poles, Jumping Figure 8, & Keyhole but the fastest she will go is a canter. She also has a strange passion for jumping. Her owner was telling me a story once of when she was running her and Storm wasn't behaving her so of course whips/spurs were brought out, heavy hands, etc... So I think Storm is just afraid to run thinking she is going to get in trouble. She has a really nice trot once you get her working and a nice easy canter. She needs some work neck reining and stopping (big time!). She has never had her teeth floated and she still has her wolf teeth. I no longer ride her in a bit, I use a hackamore for the teeth reason. She also has a lovely mane when she doesn't rub it off on the bale feeder and when it gets tended to.

I'm asking $900 on her but not really any big interest. There is a special bond between us and I feel like if I sold her I would be giving up on her. I'm not selling her for behavioral reasons, more because my neighbor hates her and is always convincing my mom and me. I have shown my neighbors horses the last 2 years and the one I dearly love. I mean me and her fit like a puzzle piece and I know I couldn't live without her but she is a full Thoroughbred and might have some arthritis. So if I sold Storm it wouldn't be like I wouldn't have a horse to ride her has like 4 riding horses.

I ride western mostly so I do Western Pleasure/Horsemanship/Trail, and gaming but I have also started doing English and would like to get into jumping. But I like to go trail riding also :)

So a few questions:
1) What is your opinion? Sell Storm or Twista?
2) What is involved and about how much does getting wolf teeth removed cost?
3) Do you think Storm would be one to continue on or move on?
4) I've tagged some photos along, could you maybe critique her conformation? *Pics are about a year old. Sorry!* (Her head is usually level when practicing, not sky high)
5) Other?

Thank you sooo much!

For one, why would you sell your horse because your neighbor doesn't like her? It's not your neighbors horse, tell them to mind their own business...

Two, get your horses teeth floated and wolf teeth removed if necessary, it is basic horse care, and if these things are not done red flags raise in a potential buyers heads, "what other basic care has not been provided?".

What is it YOU want to do with your horse? What is YOUR reason for selling her, forget about the neighbor, if you are happy with your horse the way she is then don't sell her. But if YOU want to upgrade there is nothing wrong with selling your mare for a horse that will be better suited to what you want to do.

How old is the filly? If I absolutely needed to sell one I would be inclined to sell a young horse that cannot be ridden before one you can ride, but that is just me.

Not sure I can tell you whether it's better to sell or keep her. It does sound like she might be worth keeping if you're interested in getting into jumping, though I'd definitely get that stop solid beforehand.

As far as the wolf teeth- are you sure they're not canine teeth? It's not unheard of for mares to get wolf teeth, but it's not particularly common either:

In all honesty, I would sell the younger horse now, before you get too attached. Storm is already trained, it sounds like you two get along great and understand each other. You don't really know how the foal is going to act as she grows.

Don't let ANYONE tell you what to do with your horses- whether to sell them or keep them. If this neighbor "hates" Storm, well then that's his problem, and in the long run, the only opinion regarding your horses that matters is YOURS. After all, you're the one whose putting in all the work and love.

Good luck!

And by the way, you two look really good in that picture!

keep both!

It seems easy now to sell a horse you love and have a great connection with because you think it will be easy to find another one but its not.

I sold my first horse Apache 3 years ago when I left for college he has arthritis and I tried* giving up riding because its so expensive... since then he has been to 3 homes and everyone in the new homes complains hes too much to handle... (he was the first horse I ever rode and I was 14 he never did anything to me other than rear) It makes me so sad to know he has so much potential with the right person and hes only getting older.

so long story short it was the worst decision and if I could buy him back I would in a heart beat.
I love the horse I have now and wouldn't trade him for the world but in between I got kicked in the face by a horse that I bought trying to replace Apache. your Arab can go any direction and she is still young..
good luck!

I have a horse! Why am I WALKING!??

Blackdieselpony, the horse in the 2nd picture is Storm. It isn't the filly. I can upload a picture of the filly if you would like. This is when Storm was pregnant, the first picture was from the other day and she was in shape.

I'm really thinking more and more of trying to keep both.

If the only reason you are thinking of selling one is because the neighbor says so, unless he is paying for their care, I say keep both. I really didn't see any reason in your argument for you to sell either one.
