I don't think anyone was saying (at least in my understanding anyway) that the US should try to be like the UK - our countries are too different in many ways and mainly because we have way more head of population per sq mile. Many of the remarks made by us about the UK have been in response to those made by others and often to correct mistruths or misunderstandings.
I have highlighted the we however because I do think that it implies that you (and anyone else who uses the term like that) are speaking for the entire US nation when in fact many of them are in opposite thinking to you - pretty evident from the endless stream of letters being published in all of our local newspapers and the general chatter in the area. Something you do need to think about when you make a statement like that as this is their country too and many of them are also descendants of people who were from the 'get go'.
SNOW - About 30 inches of the bloody stuff but after 5 years we have now evolved to deal with it.
Would you feel you were out of line in saying "we in the UK don't want to be like Iran"?
