Don't you see how this "I got mine now, so to heck with my greatgrandchildren" attitude is WHY we are such a troublesome species? This attitude is why the planet is in such a mess, IMO.

Sure, all the planet's problems are my fault.

You didn't get my point, which is that new technology happens when there is a need or want, always has. People adapt. That doesn't mean I think we should just sit back & do nothing.
I hope someday our great grandchildren will laugh at how primitive we were.

If it is an area of interest to you, then research it...in enough detail to explore all the categories I listed...
I have researched it. I found a couple sources that said they believe we have enough coal to last 1000 years (much smaller numbers for oil) at our current rate of use... but our rate of use is increasing so that 1000 year estimate is no longer valid, particularly if it is used to make oil.

    Green Broke
I checked a few charts and this one is about the same as the others in terms of oil useage - it also shows the EU countries as a whole which is better than breaking them down as individually they are quite small but together in size more comparable to the US
As population increases and if affluence also increases then useage goes up unless alternatives are found
The problem with past technologies is that they've mostly been about making our lives easier and more comfotable with little reagrd for what they do to the earth
How many species have we now made extinct? Doesnt say a lot for the Biblical idea that we are the Caretakers of the planet as we've not done a great job so far
Ever wondered what the US, Australia, Africa, New Zealand would be like if the Europeans had never set foot their? Would the native people still be living with nature with no technological advancements?
Our next step forward if we get it wrong might actually be a giant step back to living in caves
