I don't believe in the "prophecy" and "Peter the Roman" But what I do believe is that the Vatican has numerous cover ups over its history. Giving up being Pope is a big deal, Catholic or not; it's huge. Someone just doesn't quit being Pope because they're old. I just don't trust the Vatican or anything they say. I wouldnt be surprised if Pope Benedict XVI turns up dead shortly after 2.28. That's all I'm saying on this one.

He may well turn up dead but the guys old and old people die - that's the way it works!!!
Statistically he's more likely to be suffering from senility or Alzheimers and is being spared the ridicule he'd get if he started making a fool of himself because he had no control of his actions

The prevailing view today is that they are elaborate forgeries, probably perpretrated by a school of Jesuits in the 1600s. This is based on the clear relation of the mottos to the various popes until that period, and the need to find oblique references (such as the motto of the Pope's home diocese) to make the particular motto fit the particular pope. The inclusion of anti-popes would also appear to militate against the authenticity of the prophecies.

I agree that this man has done his job. He is tired and not up to the job anymore. He should be allowed a graceful exit instead of driving him into the ground, risking the health of the Catholic Church along with his own.

I agree, but also would add that for those that follow Catholicism and can remember, he was chosen in part because of his age...it was decided when he was chosen that the need was for a short term conservative Pope, and not one that would hold office for a long period of time. In remembering that, I think it is very possible he is not only sick, weak, and tired, but was probably encouraged to stgep down - he has already served longer than the original intent...

Apologise to anyone who finds this disrespectful (not my intention as my grandfather and many of my family are Catholics) but there is already a betting site with some very odd names amongst them

About who is the last Pope.
Then why bring up the prophecies at all, as if they had merit? If you don't believe in them, then it served no purpose to speak about them.

Even if Benedict dies right after he leaves the Papacy, what does that have to do with any 'conspiracy'? It's also no deep, dark secret that the Catholic Church has many things in their past that don't exactly adhere to the preachings of Christ. The Church has had a long history of corruption and hypocrisy. I was born, christened, baptised, and raised Catholic. I don't approve of many of the things the Church does, but that doesn't mean any other sect is any better. Every religious sect has its secrets and bloody history. Catholicism has no monopoly on sin, hatred, greed and murder.

    Evidently you believe in it.
I brought it up as a point of curiosity

Agreed, when it comes to the cover-ups involving the Vatican.
