    Roperchicks Rant on Politics

So I usually give a very wide berth from the political threads...why? It brings out my inner demon!

    Alas,

    Muahahahaha

I just read a new article in Army Times, where they are planning on even MORE troop cuts...we are at roughly 500,000 active and reserve (army)....now they are planning on getting it down to 290,000...a size we havnt had since before WWII....

My question is this...we have politicians saying this:
Nancy Pelosi says cutting Congress' pay undermines dignity of job

And we are having troop cuts, which will create even more UNEMPLOYED people, collecting unemployment and welfare...theres no job market out there...hence why Im probably (hopefully) staying in the military till retirement...when ill still have to get a job somewhere.

Now let me fill you in on a little something.

The army pays around $500,000 to get me, and everybody else with the same clearance efficient at their jobs.

Now you want to FIRE us? After spending so much money and time on us, you want to boot us out and bring more young kids in that your going to be spending MORE on to do the same thing we ALREADY know?

    To the politicians supporting this....

Im OH SO SORRY that you can't seem to survive on a 6 figure salary....I made a grand total of 23,000 last year as an E-3/4 and still somehow managed to make a $500 car payment, insurance, cell phone, gas (which is helluh expensive in Hawaii I might add) internet, FOOD (that's right the army isn't feeding me either) fun and STILL save around $400-500 a month and have a nice hefty savings at the end of the year...and your struggling with over $174,000 in your pocket. Phewy.

Your "dignity" can kiss my bum, and you can take a cut just like every other citizen in this amazing country...

If you have a problem with that....try spending a day in an infantry soldiers boots out in the box, making their 23,000 a year and see how it feels.

Aaand im going to quit now before I get myself in LOTS of trouble.

    End Castles rant.

    I couldn't agree more!!

I may be a liberal, but I cannot STAND Pelosi!! She makes me want to. Well....I don't want to incriminate myself.....

I say, let Congress work for minimum wage UNTIL THEY DO THEIR JOBS!!

What I want to know is with barely a 15% approval rating in 2012, why did 80% of them get re-elected for another Term?

I know why, but Etiquette rules will not allow me to post

I got told last night I'm not allowed to look at politically stuff anymore... more so the stuff having to deal with this moron. Hubby thought I was going to have a stroke or aneurism or something I get so pissed off.

Roper - We're a five person household on an E6's pay with him driving 80 miles one way to work everyday, feeding him and I and three kids, five horses, three dogs, three cats, keeping our equpment and stuff running, two car payments, etc, and we survived just fine on that.

AF - I don't think they should be allowed to get paid anymore than our military members... Of course I don't think any of the presidents should be getting paid as much as they do for life either...

The press seems to play into this big time. For example, under Clinton the press reported over and over on reduction in military personnel and base closings the and the big huge cost savings. What they failed to report is DoD cost increased big time at the same time due mostly to huge increases in military contracts. I am guessing the same is true, currently.

If it was up to me congress would have their pay completely suspended until such time as they actually get a budget passed that puts on a pathway to reducing the nations debt.

Missy, I'm guessing you're right. I served during Clintons term and remember how that all went down, it wasn't pretty from where I sat.

There are so many jobs that are being done by civilian contractors that could very well be done cheaper with the military personal on hand...

And, many of those jobs were done by military personnel, prior. I blame both congress and the people. The people allow congress to insist we need a huge military budget to protect us all w/o asking what, exactly, the money is spent on and whether it is spent effectively and efficiently.

It isn't just military personnel that lose/lost their jobs. Under Clinton thousands of parts were allowed to be bid out to foreign manufactures. Most all having prior been built in the US...by US workers. Yet, DoD cost just keep going up.

Lol that's funny. And agreed. Its just about budfettinf and planning and you can actually make a nice profit depending on your circumstances

    This.

Almost 70% of the people in my mos that I came to Hawaii with are getting out, going to work for NSA or another contractor and making 6 figures

And then there was the time in '11 when they "couldnt" pay us for 2 weeks that was fun lol

Oh Gods. I remember that. And then got into it with someone on another forum who said that the military was still going to get paid even if they didn't pass a budget. Asked him if he wanted a copy of my husband's LES showing that they had already deducted the pay that he wasn't going to get but was still expected to work...
