And, the reason the gun was held for 20 days was because he bought it used, from a customer....
It is very, very easy to buy or make a lot of worse things than an AR-15

If his intent truly was to purchase the rifle and then give it to somenoe else (local PD) , he technically committed a straw purchase.

He said he wanted to show how easy it was to buy a gun.
He and his wife have owned handguns before , so he knew
The routine. So this was just a big publicity stunt.

Technically? Actually I think it is a Felony to buy a Gun with the intent of giving or selling it to someone else.

Of course regal charm the NRA will not use this so called "publicity stunt" to their advantage.
The Giffords are reminded every waking moment of why we need to control access to certain firearms and why certain people should never have access to a gun.
Seems like gun advocates are now blaming the victim to discredit any one that might pose a threat to their agenda. Giffords wife is a walking talking testament to the need for reform and the american public might just see the reason behind new reforms. Reforms I might add that do not deny anyone the right to own a firearm that legally should. Shalom

But it is OK for a Liberal to perform a Publicity Stunt that is A felony and carries a 10 Year Prison Term and get away with it?

    Why am I not surprised?

Laws are already in place to stop the criminals and mentally ill
and the gun used in this shooting was a handgun. Some commentaters even went so far as to blame Palin and her PAC for the shooting.
Nothing like jumping to conclusions is there. And the SPLC listing
The Tea Party on their lists of terrorists organizations probably had
    Something to do with that.

Loughner was found by a federal judge to be incompetent to stand trial based on two medical evaluations, which diagnosed him with paranoid schizophrenia.[11] Judged still incompetent to stand trial on May 25, finally on August 7, Loughner had a hearing at which he was judged competent. He pleaded guilty to 19 counts, and in November 2012 was sentenced to life in prison.

This is a blame the gun and not the sick criminal for the crime.

Those laws are not being enforced and the case you just mentioned along with numerous others in which a mentally unstable person bought the rifle or rifles and ammunition without any problem.
Guns are used by people to kill other people.
We limit your ability to obtain chemicals, medication, and other things deemed harmful or have the potential to be abused. IMO certain firearms should be too.
If the system is not working to prevent more mass shootings then reform is needed. Shalom
