The White House requested authority earlier this month to raise the debt ceiling to $16.4 trillion, up $1.2 trillion from last summer and more than $5 trillion from the statutory limit of $11.3 trillion set in October 2008 before Obama took office. The debt at the time Obama entered the White House was $10.6 trillion. The ceiling was raised to $12.1 trillion within a month of his inauguration.

Obama in a little over 4 yrs has added 6 trillion of debt.

Does not speak to highly of a President who said raising the debt limit
"a sign of leadership failure." Out on the campaign trail in July 2008, he suggested the move was downright un-American.

But Remali, didn't you know that all of the raided money would, somehow, trickle back down to you and me? Isn't that what Reaganomics is all about?

Only now, we all are having to trickle it back UP!!

Cannot really rely on Faux News for reliable reporting, they've been cited too many times as being incorrect and misleading. Rather than "information" they provide "misinformation", or twisting the truth, far too often.

Yep, you're right it's not an entitlement it's a tax. It also means there is zero guarnatee that we'll get anything back from it no matter how much we paid in.

Such a lovely democratic talking point and so wrong. Do you watch fox news yourself? There are two different and distinct groups on fox. One is the news (ie Shep Smith and Bret Baier), extremely good and fair news people. The other half is opinion shows like Hannity and O'Reilly. The people on the opinion shows give their opinion and spin.

The major difference between fox and stations like msnbc is fox makes a distinction between their shows while others blend opinion and news together and pretend it's all news.

Yes, I actually used to watch Fox, I don't limit myself to just one news source... but, no more... it's mostly Faux News.

Doesn't matter which news channels, radio talk shows
Or bloggs you watch or listen to

Facts are facts. And in my math skills 2+2 still equal 4.

I just want to know when the government is going to
Honor those I.O.U's and put the over 3 Trillion back.

I watch it and listen to it on the radio daily. I also listen to BBC and NPR and watch network TV news. I make every effort to be REALLY fair and balanced. I often hear the blantant inaccuracies they give as "truth" and get very angry.

I don't agree. The news staff give out inflammatory and very skewed news, such as the geography class learning about the Islamic culture in Texas. Fox reportedit as teaching pro terrorist propoganda and MAKING the kids wear burquas. So wrong! They never did come back and report that they were off base with that. I watched it, so don't say it didn't happen. I was so upset by the story I researched it to see who I needed to be angry with. Then, I learned how different the truth really was.

The government has the ability to raise taxes to pay for Social Security and Medicare.
Any politcian that votes for drastic cuts to these programs might as well step aside in the next election.
Unlike the republicans that only insist on no new taxes the democrats seem anxious to get down to bargaining. At least they are willing to negotiate.
Then again our current speaker of the house does not have a very good track record dealing with our president; Seems he always loses when he plays politics Shalom
