New To Mules! Need Advice

Ok so we've had plenty of horses, chickens, cats, goats, etc. but never a mule! A guy we know had to get rid of one, he was in a very bad place so we said we would take him in. He got here last night but we have no experience with them and need any tips and advice possible! We know he is barely a yearling out of an Appy mare. He's been handled but has his manhood and gets crazy around mares and other horses so he has to be in a stall until our vet can come on Monday to snip snip.

I need help with everything: feeding, care, farrier work, training... I know they are so much different than horses, I've been reading as much as possible too.

Thank you for helping us in our crazy situation!

Just like a horse - only more so. They eat the same. Farrier needs to know how to trim a mule as they are on there toes more. A mule is considerably smarter than a horse and remembers everything. Always remember if he kicks at you and misses - it is because he wanted to.
horsea and KigerQueen like this.

Yeah I was nervous about them but he is actually very sweet and attentive. I can tell how smart he is! He picked up lunging right away, stands in crossties, loves to be brushed, picks up his feet!
