Poor Connor has had yet another setback, although this one is his fault. On Thurseday afternoon he started throwing up chronically, and has not been able to keep anything down at all since then, including water. Ofcourse, he's gotten dehydrated dispite trying to get him to keep some ice chips down, and so we schedualled him for the earlier vet appointment possible, which was this morning.
He's already lost four pounds (he was originally 50 pounds) so we've been concerned. The vet palpated his stomach and felt a mass near his intestines, so we brought him in for x-rays and sure enough he has a rather large, linear obstruction in his small intestines, just past his stomach. This is one of the harder places to get foreign objects out of, unfortunately.
So he was checked into their emergency clinic. We really can't afford another surgery for him right now, but what can we do? He's doing so well with his therapy and he's just gotten to where he has started feeling like a normal puppy, learning to jump and strengthening his muscles. My family is having to pay for my gallbladder surgery soon so this one for him is going to have to come completely out of my pocket I guess.
The plan right now is to slam him with fluid over the weekend through an IV, and start him on some antibiotics/anti inflamitories to try getting the mass to move along on its own. Since its already been almost three days though, there isn't a very good chance that it will work. If by Sunday evening nothing has passed, he will be brought in to surgery on Monday morning and the obstruction will be surgically removed. It's going to cost me nearly $3000 though, which is almost all of what I have saved away for college at the moment.
Keep Connor in your prayers and thoughts. We need this mass to PASS!
