Anyone have minature Pot Bellied Pigs???

A friend of my husband has Mini Potbellied sow that is due to have piglets and is determined that I "need" one.

I am very tempted since they are a lot like having dogs, but I don't know much about pigs. Does anyone have any experience with them? Good idea, bad?

LOL! Are you an animal collector too?

The only experience I have of pigs was when I was little my parents fattened and butchered one a year, not a pet...and friends that raised them for 4H and FFA.

My horseshoer raised a wild pig for a pet and said it was smarter than any dog she owned. I guess you can house train them too. She said(we both own a Chihuahuas) "If you can house break a Chihuahua, you will have no problem housebreaking a pig!" Of course the first thing I think is...a pig in the house????

Ha ha ha, no dice....
I dislike birds...especially geese and turkeys!

But I would gladly send you a pig...for a price. ;)

I have one! If you get one that hasn't been handled, even if its a piglet it does take awhile to get them to trust you. I wouldn't recommend them for house pets, but mine stays in the barn just fine with the horses, and get along well enough through her fence with the horses. I would be careful though if you are planning to let yours loose, mine will run at the first chance she gets. Also, just remember that if you feed 'em enough they won't stay mini for long. They are fun pets and have humongous personality and are very energetic when they're younger. My piggies name is Mayham, for obvious reasons. Just be prepared for the long haul, I have a friend who's miniture pig is 23!

Oh wow! Good to know! The place we are currently leasing is on a fairly busy county road with no yard fencing(the house sits at the front, and the pasture is out back) My dogs know the boundries so they don't run or wander off. Im not a big on having dogs constantly in the house but I do bring them in in the evenings for sure...

Thinking the pig may not be the best idea right now.

Meet Pork Chops. He is potty trained but we don't let him in the house. He sits, he begs, and he walks on a leash. I think he costs me about 10 dollars a month to feed. (He gets about 2 cups of pig feed per day). I give him left overs from dinner but only fruits, veggies, and bread. No meat.

If you rub his belly he will lay down like a dog and let you pet all over him. Very sweet. He is neutered.
