    He's gorgeous. :3

You know, the worst part is right now - watching him suffer and knowing that the decision is coming. It's god awful.

I think you'll find that once the deed is over, it's almost a relief. You never have to see him suffer again. He'll be at peace. You're not killing him, you're sending him off to paradise. It's totally up to you whether or not you go with when it happens. Don't think it's some nightmarish experience, though. The animal is sedated before the actual euthanasia drug is administered, then they simply drift away, as easily as falling asleep. Very peaceful and pain-free.

I'm really sorry for what you're going through. This part of pet ownership sucks beyond words. It'll be okay, though. *hugs*

When I was 13, I had to have my beloved cat put down, she was 11, and I had chosen her as a kitten. My mom couldn't take it, so she waited in the car, and I took her in and held her while she passed. It wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done, but it wasn't the hardest, either and I'm glad I did it, because all these years later I know that I did absolutely everything I could for her, right up to her last moment.

Enjoy the time you have left with your beloved friend.

Thankyou everyone. These posts brought tears to my eyes and im glad i'm not the only one who gets so upset when their beloved animal has to be put down. Watching him suffer does hurt but atm he's at the stage where its only uncomfortable for him(which is why the vet allowed us to bring him home). He is already going downhill steadily and last night he was doing pretty bad though today he's perked up a little. I'm hoping to borrow my fathers camera and take some photos of me and him so I can always remember him. Going to stop writing now, too sad :(

You have a lovely cat & it's obvious that he is very well loved. Yes, it sucks that it is happenning near your birthday, but we don't always get to choose for the happennings in your life. Releasing our animals from pain & terror is a big responsibility. We are here for you & many of us have been through this-it's always rough, but it's a part of opening our hearts to those wonderful furbabies. Prayers coming to you & Big Boy in this sorrowful time.

I too am vey sorry your Big Boy is so ill. I have had more than my share of heartache when it comes to the end of life of a beloved pet. Your post brought tears to my eyes. I had a very faithful 12 year old border collie name Pyper and her time came unexpectedly due to her heart valve problem. My daughter, my good friend and I brought her to the vets office on a Sunday with the intention of euthanasia as she was suffering a heart failure crisis far from the point of no return. I didn't really want to make that decision but I knew it was the only one to make. We had our last minutes together and went over all of her funny stories like when she so silently stole the ham off the counter till we heard the nashing sound on the other side of the island. She loved ham! As you can imagine we laughed and cried and when we were done she provided one last miracle for us she just trembled and took her last breath in our arms. I will always remember this last gift to us forever. Stay strong!
