Happy birthday to meeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Okay, so for YEARS now I've been wanting a cairn terrier to do EarthDog and agility with, but haven't been able to find one, much less afford one. I had the chance to buy a six-month-old red female last February for an insanely cheap price, but ended up getting my horse instead. So, I've been kicking myself ever since I passed her up.

Anyway, lately I've been really wanting a companion for my big dog (especially since the landlady/future monster-in-law won't let him be in the house) and have been looking for a cairn to adopt. I found one about an hour and a half north of us a few weeks ago, but she was adopted literally an hour before I emailed them.

So, I was cruising Craigslist today and, off a whim, decided to look at the Las Vegas Craigslist (mind you, Vegas is a good four hour drive from where I live). I searched "terrier" in the pet section and up popped an ad that said "Free Cairn Terrier to a loving home." I immediately texted the number in the ad and waited. I looked at the ad again and saw that it had been posted on Monday, so I thought "Shoot. He's probably already found a home." Imagine my delight when about half an hour later, the lady texted me back that she still had him! I told her that I've been looking for a puppy, but they're hard to find in Arizona and that I want to do EarthDog and agility with him. She's ecstatic that he's going to be going to a home that will give him a job!

The next hurdle was the boyfriend. We've been kind of tossing the idea of getting a dog back and forth, but he's been hesitant. Well, my birthday was Wednesday and, since I didn't get anything for my birthday (aside from a day spent doing stuff that other people wanted to do and a little package of dollar store stuff from my parents...not complaining at all, just saying), my boyfriend agreed that we could go pick him up on Sunday (my next day off)!! I am so excited!

Here's the ad, with two pics of the little cutie: Free Cairn Terrier to a loving home

Now, he just needs a name. I like unusual/different names, and he also needs a registered names. My favorite things are pirates and vampires, so something with either of those would be cool.

First of all, Happy Belated Birthday!!!!!!! So glad you found this dog you've been wanting - how cool is that? Not too good with dog names, but something like, "Dougal", "MacDougal"..... I'm sure you'll come up with something cute! Have fun with him :)

Thanks, Northernstar!

I was kind of thinking Jack or Johnny. Johnny would be hilarious because my big dog's name is Cash, so if I called them at the same time, I'd be calling "Johnny! Cash! Get over here!" ROFL!!!

I also like the name Calico Jack as a "registered name" (he can't be registered, but he qualifies for PAL/ILP, so he needs a name for that), after "Calico Jack" Rackham, the 18th-century pirate.

Found out from his owner that his registered name is Jackpot and they call him Jack. I can't wait to go pick him up!

Congrats and Happy B-day!

Thanks, everyone. Cash (my big dog) is, and always will be, my baby, but there's things I can't so with him because of his hip issues and because of his big dog issues. So, Jack will be my competition dog and Cash's companion while we're at work.
