I might be getting another rat!!!!

Well as some of you know I work at a pet store. For a while one lady (known to many many costumers as "The Rat Lady") started a breeding program for the rats so we could get some really nice and friendly rats to sell as pets..since the onces we got in as feeders weren't that friendly (they weren't mean...just was really frightened).
She told me today that she is leaving because she is moving in with her boyfriend and going to work elsewhere.

Anyways, she said that since she was leaving the breeding program was going to end...and all the male rats that we use for breeding will be up for sale. The one male she is taking home because he has some health problems (abcesses and a skin problem), but the other breeder, Hamlet, will need a home or else he might become snake food.

She said I should take him, and I of course wanted him, but just joked around saying well if I got him, I'd need a new cage since I can't put him in with my two females. She immediately responded saying that if I took him, she'd give me a nice cage. Not a three level cage like I have now, but one that is big enough for him.

My mom seems alright with me bringing him home...but I have yet to ask my dad. I am worried that he will say no and use the excuse "You guys don't take care of the rats you have now"...he doesn't realize that when I got MY rat my sister got another one and in return promised to help do stuff and pay for stuff....but she doesn't.

Hamlet is probably 2 years old, so has maybe 5months to a year to live, but he is the sweetest rat ever. He's huge...he probably is 5-7 pounds. He is a total love bug and LOVES his nose and cheeks scratched.
The only health problem he has, is he getse ingrown whiskers...but that is easily solved.

I have no pictures of him...but here is a picture of what he looks like

Well normally only 2 years...give or take. But he's in great health so we are expecting him to live to 3 years

I had no idea that the lifespan on a rat was so short!

I hope you get him!

Yeah...in the wild they live probably one year...but since in captivity they can't be eaten nor can they really starve (unless the owner is mean ) so they normally live 2-2.5 years. We think though that he'll live to be 3 if not more!!

Well my dad said yes!!!
Soooo I've got to tell the lady to let her know and probably tomorrow (unless she has the cage today) I'll be bringing him home!

I will either pick him up tomorrow or Thursday. I e-mailed the girl at work saying my dad said yes, so she'll get the message tomorrow (it's an e-mail to other co-workers...not an outside e-mail)
I will most defiantely take pictures!!
