The first one is Nova, and I've had her the longest. I've had Nova since April 2010 and she was my first reptile. I had been through fish, guinea pigs, hamsters, and a nasty friends rabbit that made me want to try something new. Nova is a Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tail leopard gecko (SHTCT is her coloring) and she is now a full grown, chubby adult! She has a special place in my heart. She has a very "princess" personality, she will crawl around on the floor around me and up my shirt, up the back of chairs, etc., but if she gets scared by a loud noise, she will come sprinting back to me. I've learned to trust her (as much as you can a reptile) to be fine on the couch while I watch tv, she will just wander around but always wander back to me. She is really special and I spent a lot of time with her in the beginning gaining her trust. She eats mealworms (won't eat crickets) and she has gotten into the habit of hand-feeding (I know, I was warned, but my dad cares for her while I'm at college, and when she wouldn't eat from the bowl, he used his own tweezers to hand-feed her, I have the sweetest dad! And he didn't even know that tong-feeding is a common thing...). So she is very spoiled but I love her ;)
I quickly found that what everyone had said was true, geckos are like potato chips; you can't just have one ;)
Next I got Cocoa and Sasquatch. Cocoa is my African fat tailed gecko. I originally wanted an amelanistic striped one, but she was one of the only two stripes AFTs at the pet expo and she was just so sweet, just sat in my hand. So I picked her up! She is pretty shy but very calm. I was very surprised how different her personality was from Nova, even though they have similar body types. AFTs are known to be a lot more docile and calm. Cocoa will only eat crickets. She has proven to be a lot more work than Nova and requires a little more worrying! She has been growing a lot slower, a lot more sensitive to not eating when going through habitat changes, and has problems with stuck shed on her toes that I have to get off with tweezers (which is why she kind of hates me!) She is a jungle-type species, but hates water, so that's why she struggles shedding. She is the most docile little thing though, she would sit in my hand for hours. She's not like Nova though, she likes to get away from me whenever she can! She knows I'm bad news because if I take out her hides, she's either getting a warm soak with water to help her toes or getting put into a smaller container to be fed. She has hissed at me before, squeaked, and even bit me once because I must've grabbed her little toe with the tweezers on accident! She's a sweet little girl. P.S. She gets comfortable in the weirdest of places xD
Sasquatch is a crested gecko, and I was nervous to get one because they have sticky pads on their toes and can climb up walls, and also tend to be jumpy. But I've found that instead of sticking to one species, I find it more fun to set up habitats for different species and learn about the care requirements of different reptiles. And come on, these guys had the cutest little eyelashes ;) So I decided I wanted to name him Sasquatch because it's an awesome word, I don't believe in bigfoot haha. Cresties are adorable, bendy, stretchy, and just awesome haha. This little guy has given me more mini panic attacks than anything... but I love him. You know I heard they tend to be flighty, but this little guy is not afraid of me in the least. The second the lid comes off, he will try to leap out of the tank onto anything that's in his line of vision. It's funny because he is either sprinting away for dear life, or sitting calmly in my hand. I think he will be an excellent sitter when he gets bigger, older, and fatter! I love his little personality and his little polka dots. He fires up (changes color, usually gets darker or brighter, when feeding, sprayed, afraid, etc.) really dark and I wanted him because he was almost black, fitting of a Sasquatch. He is photogenic... when he decides to sit still. And of course, that's not on any of my props in my makeshift lightbox xD It's really hard just to choose a few pictures of this guy!
Wow, I really didn't want to write an essay, I just wanted to introduce my geckos. I guess I just love them so much I wanted to share their life story! Skim the blabbering and just look at the pictures if you like, they are cute little devils :)
Thanks so much for looking!
P.S. If you want to see a few more pictures, just ask :)
