The Official Guinea Pig Thread

Aw, c'mon, I CAN'T be the only guinea pig owner out there! Piggies are the sweetest, funniest, BEST small pets. Seriously.

I have 2 females, Felix and Murphie (we used to think they were boys). They have such distinct personalities - Murphy is smart, curious, and confidant. Fee is not-so-smart, very excitable, and not as bold. They make a hilarious duo!

I love guinea pigs, too! I don't have them anymore, but I used to raise them (pre-digital era) and don't have any pictures. Yours seem to have quite the setup and look very happy. :) Very cute, too!

We used to have a couple. They are cute but the ones we had screamed and whined all the time, especially when we opened the refrigerator. Even my kids wanted to get rid of them. So I gave them away.

Yup, the "screaming and whining" is called wheeking, Maynme. Mine do it all the time, but we find it endearing. :)

Found this thread! And although I've posted in MI's Guinea Pig thread, I'll post about Topaz on here too.
Topaz is my first piggie, and I'm so glad I decided to get her! We're sorting out a bigger cage for her so we can get her a friend, but for now she's a spoilt brat who is very vocal, especially at dinner time (even if you're not cutting something up for her, she thinks it's hers and starts wheeking very loudly)! She's a very content lil girl, and loves life! She's quite brave for a piggie too, she does startle easily, but she's always the first to explore things, even if it's a little scary! She even made friends with one of my kittens and socialises with my dog too (who is more scared of her than Topaz is!)... and don't worry, she is never left alone with these animals, and always kept from harms way!

Here's my little friend, she's just turned 12 weeks old:

I Love them! Their so so cute! My mum & I had them when I was around 3 & the last one died around 3 years ago. WE had SOOO many of them in the end! We had one mummy one & what we thought was another mummy one turned out to be a daddy one. The mum ended up having 9 litters of lil baby gp's. Most of the baby's we gave to the pet shop as there was literally 100's. One of the baby's was called double 8,9,10. Then we had pickatu, & alot of other funny names that only a kid would call their pets lol. I don't have any at the moment but they are a great low matnece pet to have! Xoxo brooke

P.s. We ended up getting the daddy de-sexed lol it cost $50 lolsa

Topaz is adorable!! I love that second picture ... you can already tell she's going to get a HUGE dewlap.
If you're wanting a bigger cage, go to Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home . It's a fantastic site!

Thanks azarni, we are in the process of turning the top of my desk into a massive living space for her. Spoilt little brat :P But we're going to have to get her a friend because she won't be able to come up and down from rooms like she does now!
Haha Maynme! We are learning all about that. Topaz is especially loud! If anyone goes to the french door, she starts to whine... anyone opens it and she wheeks the house down! She associates the door with getting grass. And if someone cuts something up in the kitchen, then automatically she must be getting fed, so she wheeks then too.
Both times, she could have a bowl full of food, or be standing in a huge pile of grass, but no! She must be getting more!
Lol.
