What a babe!!! I always thought that it was awful that they're illegal to own in CA... Wonder what hooligan came up with that law.

How do you cuddle a hedgehog? Aren't they prickly?

If anyone is considering getting one I would suggest getting from a certified breeder (there is a genetic issue called wobbly hedgehog syndrome. It is a neurologic condition that is not manageable or curable) I took a risk and found him on craigslist!

They are only prickly when they are scared or upset. When they are relaxed their quills lay flat and it almost feels plastic-y. They have furry heads and bellies though!

When they are upset it does hurt slightly but unlike porcupines, they can't shoot their quills so you don't have to worry about a handful of quills!

He's fantastic but they're a lot of responsibility. In order to have a social, friendly hedgehog you have to handle them daily and it's suggested for at least an hour a day. I honestly only get him out maybe 5 days a week and he's still friendly but not as friendly as he could be :P

When they roll up into a ball, a pair of oven mitts works great for picking them up.

Just FYI.....porky's don't shoot their quills. They let go at the slightest touch and they will stick, but no "shooting" them.
