    Rant (long)

I have noticed a trend on many pet forums. On most, there are a select group of fanatics who rule the roost. If you have differing views, you are a horrible person who abuses your pets. On rat/mouse forums, if you feed Kaytee or have a small cage, you might as well just torture your pets. On dog forums, *gasp* you feed purina/ol' roy/pedigree/ect. How could you! Your poor dog is going to die at any second!

But then... if for example I posted a "what do you feed your dog" on a mouse forum, they almost all feed crappy foods. On a dog/horse/cat forum, most know nothing about basic rodent care for their own pets!

On a dog/cat forum, awwwwww, look at the baby mice, what nice pretty cedar bedding!" On a mouse forum... "what adorable puppies/kittens, who cares they are being taken from their mother too young" But if you post a breeding add for mice on a mouse forum, all hell breaks loose, same as for breeding a dog/horse on a dog/horse forum.

Why can't people try to give above average care for ALL their pets, rather then give then obsess over the BEST of everything for ONE pet.

Rant over. And yes, I know this doesn't apply to everyone, just most.

I personally think that as long as all your pets needs are met then you are doing a good job as a pet owner, not matter what kind of pet you have. I think that good pet care doesn't require paying $40 for a little bag of food. Me and my kids don't even eat that good. However, if someone else has the money and wants to give their pet high dollar food, then that's fine too. To many people get on their high-horse when it comes to pet care though.

Why would people on a horse forum know how to feed mice?

Because horses arent the only pets they have?

I have not yet ventured to a Rat forum because I bought.. *GASP* one rat. No, I did not do the research and I bought him from a pet store. I bought books and magazines the same day I bought him and I remember posting something on this forum, on the other pets section and I got blasted via PM for buying just one rat from a pet store. I'm still learning to care for him and I think I've got him too fat so I do need to find one.

I also have been interested in finding a dog forum. I havent looked in on our forum yet, I wonder if it's booming? Anyway, what has kept me away from all other forums is just that. People can be very judgemental and passionate about the things like that they feel they are most knowledgeable in.

Part of why I love this forum is that most people have a pretty open mind. On occasion there are "attacks" but the intention behind them is always focused on the best interest of the animal involved.... I think I just went off on my own rampage...

Well, I guess I'm guilty of doing the 'oh those are so pretty' comments too. But they are!

If you don't own mice, you shouldn't know about mice, but if you have them you SHOULD! If you do make an impulse decision like farmpony (been there, done that) then you need to do your research ASAP.

Sandy2u1, that's how I feel! I don't eat all organic gourmet food developed by a nutrition specialist, so I don;t really think my pets do either. I mean, they eat bird crap for heaven's sake!

Ah, your post was a little confusing. I thought you were saying it was bad about people just saying they were cute. Sorry about that! Yeah, if people have mice they should do their research, just like any other critter.

I've never been on other types of pet forums. I don't think I will now, they sound pretty scary.
