Rats! :D

So after working with a rat at work, I decided that they are awesome little creatures so I got two :) Well, I got one (the darker one I've decided to name Cricket ) and my boyfriend got a little friend for her (the blonde one who is still unnamed.)

They were squirmy and still getting used to their surroundings so not the greatest pictures but hopefully they'll come around so I can get some better ones:

Mine is a bit more cautious and timid (and younger) and his is pretty curious and a little more used to being handled.

Anyone else have them?

Those look exactly like the two rats we used to have!!!!

They were both females; Ginger and Napolean (we named her before knowing she was female) Ginger didn't live as long as Napolean. The both died of mammary tumors, but this is common in female rats who never breed.

They were delightful pets, especially Napolean. Very clean and never bit us. The would snuggle up into your hair, under you chin. My son had his in his bed sometimes. They make great pets. Much better than hamsters!

I'm super excited about them! Everyone who has owned them has great things to say about them. They definitely have their own personalities

I loved rats and had them for years, it always made me sad when I had to feed our snake since we feed live, and ALL Rats are cute so it was hard to watch, but you get used to it, I loved our rats and would love another but I have a dog who is into attacking any moving object and has recently killed 2 chickens so I don't want to risk bringing something else in that would be in danger. My uncle breeds rats and he had been breeding tailless rats for those that are squemish of their tails and wouldn't want one because of the tail, can have one of these fabulous pets! I think it's a great idea! Good look with your ratties I hope to see more pictures!!

I didn't even know tail-less rats existed I'd love to see some pictures of them!

I used to feed mice to my snake and it was always really sad :( Luckilly both these girls have been saved from the feeder rat fate :)

Feeding live is actually very dangerous for your snake. It is best to teach them to eat humanely killed/frozen/thawed. Stories of a cornered rat/mouse attacking a snake are not rare at all.

Pet rats are the best!

We've tried teaching him to eat frozen, and we've heated it up and jiggled it around like it's real and he still wont touch it, so what we do is just watch him, and if he doesn't eat it right away we take it away, never leaving him in there alone with the rat.

Unfortuantly I don't have any pictures of his tailless but next time I go over i'll definitely get some!

Tailless rats, like so many man made tailless other animals (not docked tails) are prone to all types of genetic issues because being tailless is an actual birth defect to the spine.

Per the people I know and respect that are into the snake thing (and are pet rat owners) some snakes take longer than others to teach but they have never met a snake that would adapt to the better feeding system of humanely killed, frozen and thawed rodents.

Adjakjfafjdajfajdjfdajfdafheurdfadawwwcutecutecute ajkdfja;

Givemegivemegiveme. I'm probably getting another pair in a few weeks but I can't wait.

They are so cute and I am so jealous. They are going to be WILD, though The girls are so curious and always into everything, while the boys are content to just cuddle with you <3

I love rats.
