so, my dog's toe nail came off.

I am most likely taking him to the vet in the morning, although it is hardly an emergency so if they don't have an opening, it's ok. On Friday, it was split and bothering him so we drenched it with hydrogen peroxide and wrapped it. The bandage came off in the morning. Then my husband took him running (without rebandaging it) and when he came home the nail was pointing up instead of down so he clipped it off (I'm not sure if the nail bed is actually still there or not) but the quick is still there and not bleeding. It looks like a mini, pink nail. He's walking on it, not limping. He tries to lick it without a bandage but doesn't seem to hurt much otherwise. Has anybody ever seen this sort of thing? I will take a pic when I get home and change his bandage. Any vet techs out there think it may grow back or need to be removed? Obviously I'm not going to rely on forum information...and I've already googled it so no need to point me to Just sayin

Super common, and not a big deal. Just keep him from licking at it and causing it to get infected and it will dry up and the nail regrow on it's own in a few weeks. Not worth a vet visit unless he won't leave it alone.

Thanks for the reassuring words. I've never had it happen to any of my dogs before. Sigh, this dog is probably going to be hurting himself his entire life. But a happy (older) pic of him sharing his bed with his "big" brother.
