    Turtles?

Anyone have a turtle or tortoise? I have three ornate box turtles and two just hatched the day before yesterday (and maybe more on the way). The lil ones are so cute :). I'll try to post pics but I haven't taken any yet so I don't know if I will.

Cute. I haven't had a turtle or tortoise, but my school does. I can't wait to see pictures, I love pictures of baby animals, be sure to post some when you do.

    Congrats!

I have three red eared sliders. Their names are Big Momma, Little Man, and Elivs. They're cute, but huge! I've had them for about 6 years! I got them in Gulf Shores in 2002.

Ok I'll try to get pics later on today. Sometimes they go face to face then touch noses and right there they look so adorable . . . And then one opens its mouth and tries to bite the other's head off :) lol lol. I feel so bad for them but they gotta learn sometime (it doesn't hang on though so I don't think they'll bleed . . . I hope not).

Ya, I've seen some red eared sliders that are huge! My turtles are on land so they seem pretty different (to me at least). Ornate box turtles only grow to 8in. The longest but they're round not oval like. Two are like 5in., one is like 3in., and one of the lil ones is the size of a 50 cent coin, and the last lil one is like a quarter (the sizing doesn't include head and tail). Are yours hard to take care of? I heard they are but *shrugs*. All I have to do for the adults is water everyday, refill water bowls everyday, and feed them like every other day. And they're just fine like that . . . They like to be left alone (they're outside). The two lil ones I'm still finding out about but there's moss stuff in there (to keep it humid) so I have to go out there two - three times a day to keep it moist. I think I'll try to feed the lil ones everyday though.

This is our girl. That's about the size of the two 5in. I'll try to get pics of the others later.

I have a turtle we caught about a month ago. She laid an egg but it's turing colors so I don't think it made it. I'll have to throw it out. How do I know if she's eating enough? What should I feed her? She eats strawberries but that's the only thing I know for sure she is eating. I give her lettuce, tomatoes, blackberries, blueberries, I bought box turtle food which she doesnt touch, there are crickets in her cage with her... how do I know if she's getting enough???

Well you have to find out what type of turtle you got first. I know box turtles are mainly carnivorous (meat eaters). Tortoises eat mainly greens. How big is it? Can you post a pic? Did she lay the egg above ground? Eggs have to be laid in dirt to survive. Where do you keep her?

If she's a tortoise I don't think they go for bugs. Carrots are very important cause that's vitamin A. Usually I give my turtles food every other day and I let them eat as much as they want (cause their body will tell them how much and what). The food is a mixture of veggies and pieces of chicken but that's what my box turtles eat and we have to find out what your turtle is. Pics would be very helpful if you can post some. Oh, and make sure you always have a water bowl in there for her (if you don't already).

I'll take a pic today. I believe she is an eastern box turtle. I'll take some pics tonight. When she laid the egg we had just caught her and she was in a pet carrier outside and the egg was on top of hay. So I don't think it made it. Now she's in an aquariaum with a mulch type bottom. I'll get a pic tonight. I keep catching crickets for her but I don't think she's eating them. Should I go buy some worms? Believe or not, I can't FIND worms! LMAO.. I turn over rocks and boards and everything! I would give her a toad to eat but... that makes me feel guilty... Oh... and she's small enough to hold in one hand... maybe 8 inches long? She looks like this:
