I don't think that rats are a strange pet at all.

I have a Giant African Land Snail. And my youngest son had a pet Tomato Horn Worm one summer---YUCK!!! But the "strangest" would have to be my one-legged Buff Orpington chicken, Rosie. She survived an attack by a raccoon, and two attacks by dogs---one of them a Dingo. She was smart, and just found a safe place to sit VERY still. She was one of my first chickens, and taught me a lot about perseverance!

Everything can be achieved through patience!

I'd rather have a problem horse than a problem man. The horse I can work with. The man---I cannot help!

I have a rat, four ferrets and 3 mice. And my betta. But they're not strange like they used to be. I've always wanted a sugar glider.
Although, rats are illegal to own in Alberta, where I grew up, so definately strange to me when I got my first one.

My brothers and I once found an abandoned baby quail outside so we kept him in a shoe box with a heat lamp. We named him Dan, get it?!

Sadly, he didn't live very long

I've had a chicken and a rooster that were more or less pets. The rooster was Rooty and the chicken was Shirley
Shirley liked to come out to weed with me in the garden and would sit on my lap getting petted.
The rooster was just a regular barnyard rooster but he knew enough to not try to get into the chicken house. And he only crowed in the mornings.
They are both dead now, I have little chicken graves outside my barn with a cross on the graves.

I'm getting 2 pair of button quail later this month.

Husbands and boyfriends count. The animals are usually better behaved and easier to train anyhow.

currently the strangest pet I have is a capybara. (world's largest rodent) his closest relative is the guinea pig. He weighs 125#. His name is "Cranberry" and he has a pet goat named "Kidd Brother" and they are inseparable.
