Thanks flygap. She spent one night in the hospital, all tests came back normal, so she was diagnosed with having hereditary infantile epilepsy. They gave her meds that will hopefully stop it from happening again. She's been home all week, her mom wanted to keep a close eye on her, but she'll be back with me on Monday.

Wow...what a scary ordeal for you. I'm a medic and when it comes to babies it's hard to keep cool...but I have too....no matter what.
This might sound off track abit but have thought about taking a basic first aid course? In situations like this...it could have come in very handy. There is nothing too much to do about the siezures but you could monitor the baby(make sure the airway is open, baby is breathing...etc) until medical help arrives (or parents)
When my girls were 8 mths old....I taught my husband about choking and cpr procedures in case something happened to one of the girls when I was gone. Sure enough...two days later I was gone out for the evening and one of our daughters choked on a cookie (complete obstruction). My husband knew exactly what to do...otherwise we would have lost a daughter.
I congratulate you for keeping your composure. I would have called 911 right on the dot...but you did what you thought was right and I commend you for that.

Thanks strawberry. I definitely want to get cpr certified and first aid trained. Finding the time to take a class that takes a few hours is hard. My weekdays are completely tied up and weekends are spent catching up on things I didn't get done durring the week, but I will do it. The whole child care thing just sort of happened, but I would still love to have that knowledge for my own children. I've spent countless hours going over first aid and cpr literature online already, just knowing it was something I needed to do and especially after the baby's seizure. She hasn't had another one with me since, but she did have one with her parents last weekend. Apparently she already outgrew her medication and it needed to be increased. They hope to work with a specialist to monitor her growth and catch it before it happens again.
