Its offically been just over a month!
Had our two new horses over a month now, and I maybe bias, but I think they are coming right along! Levi (paint) still has a very long way to go, but Hondo (dunskin) is doing great.

Thanks guys :) I have to look back at pictures because its hard to see the improvment when you see them daily. I'd really like to build muscle, but its hard coming.
Problem is I compare them to my lease gelding to a foundation QH. I know Hondo won't ever be built like that, he's a quararab. But Levi should eventually, hopefully. But my lease gelding is a mac truck with hooves!
I guess I should add what we're doing to build muscle lol
We round pen and lunge over ground poles, and small jumps. We also focus on solid stops and turns. We do this 3 days a week for 30 min. Then once a week we round pen over the ground poles using a neck stretcher.
Any other tips?
If you're trying to build muscle, then I wouldn't focus on jumping as much as trotting. Unless you're training them to jump, it's up to you.
But remember trotting builds muscle, while cantering burns fat

The small jumps are about a ft. Not training for jumping, just adding something new. Also helps my paint pick up his feet. He's lazy, lmao.
We don't hardly canter at all unless its just for a split second cause something excited them. Everything is at a trot.
Just remember that right now, they are also trying to gain weight, at the same time you are trying to have them build muscle.
Often times, I will not do alot of 'fitness' type work on a horse I am rehabbing until he is at a healthy weight...THEN when he is at a weight I feel comfortable with, I will start a workout regimine to build muscle and strengthen his body; but til then I will usually only do enough to maintain, or build manners if the horse doesn't have any. Muscle building can come once the weight has been put on. JMHO.
They are putting weight on nicely, but I didn't want to put on fat with out muscle. So we don't work too hard, because I don't want them to burn too much. Also because I know muscle is harder to build once its lost, I was afraid to wait to long.
Do you think just keeping what I'm doing, light work, in a good regimen, will be enough?
