very bumpy while loping
While riding Storm today I noticed that he was very bumpy and fast. Usually while loping he is smooth and slow, but for some reason he wasn't today.
I don't think he was hot because his walk and trot was the same. It was almost like he was jumping and bouncing with every stride he took. I tried pulling back on the reins and stopping and backing him up but nothing seemed to work. I thought that he might be hyper so I just let him go full speed around the arena for some fun but after about half a lap he would run into the middle and I could barely control him.
Itís very frustrating and I hope that itís just a simple fix. Does anyone have any advice or similar past experiences?
Since this is a suddenly new development, that tells me that it's likely a pain response. Are you 100% sure your saddle fits him well? When is the last time his teeth were done? Is it possible that he could have slipped or fallen in turnout and tweaked a muscle or tendon somewhere to make him sore?
I'm not sure if its related to pain, because while grooming him he didn't seem in pain and we rode for a good hour or so and it was a good work out. He wasn't limping or showing any sign of pain. I am wondering if he might of been having a weird day because he was also not behaving on the cross ties.
