Best Time of Year?
What is everyone's opinion on when it is the best time of year or season to try to sell tack? I have been trying to sell a decent lesson program saddle for several months now and havent even had a bite on it. When does everyone try to sell their old tack? Also how have you tried to or have sold besides the classified ads here on the forum. Oh also if it makes a difference which I am sure that it does, I am in the USA.
If you've been trying for several months, you missed the season. Spring or early summer is the best time to sell. Fall and winter are the best times to buy.
If you haven't gotten a bite on your saddle, you are either not listing it in the right places or you are asking way too much.
hmm okay thank you!
If you have a good quality saddle though you can market it a a Christmas gift and sell it:wink:
It also depends where you are, While winter means cutting down or out on riding up here in the wild a wooly north, our friends down south are thinking that good riding weather is just coming up, so maybe market it to places they don't have killer winters.
Its not a high quality saddle unfortunately. It was my first saddle as a kid and has had its fair share of being beat up a little bit. I was marketing it as a youth saddle that would be perfect for a kid beginner or a lesson program. I guess I will just keep on trying.
Golden, I think thats a pretty good thought! I keep forgetting that forum goers are from literally all over I guess.
I'm with iride. Spring before show season starts. I never have any tack to sell (I'm a tack hoarder) but always have 4-H families asking if I know of stuff around the 4-H enrollment time in March/April.
Do have it spotlessly clean. A little matching shoe polish will touch up a scraped cantle, let dry and buff with a soft cloth, not a brush. Use the polish in a can. Glycerin soap will do a nice job on the remainder. Be sure to have it at a nice height for viewing. I looked at a saddle one time flopped on the basement floor in poor light. I didn't even try to look at it. Horse crazy little girls would love to get a used saddle for Xmas, even a used one. "For the horse lover in your family, what would make her happier than having her own saddle"
