New pony, need opinion on tack
2 Attachment(s)
Hi, I bought a new pony at auction 2 weeks ago, She is a 5 y/o Haflinger x.
She was a amish horse, so they have her forelock shaved, which I dont like. But I think she is a pretty girl. She needs a little weight, she rides and drives.
I am browsing ebay for saddle pad, headstall etc...What color do you think would look best on her?
I am calling her Sage.
Thanks in advance.

She's cute. Congrats.

The color of tack will depend on what you want to do with her, but I'd say she'd look better in bright colors and dark leather. Light oil tack always looks a bit odd on dark horses to me.

Why don't you browse around and see what you like - we have a lot of selection: Western Saddles :: Western saddle Horse tack English saddles Pony saddle for sale - SaddleOnline Inc.

aww...she looks like a black silver! Some lines of haffies have silver in them, but since they are all chestnuts, silver doesn't show! Too cute though.

I think bright bold jewel tones of blues or greens would look great on her. Or Turquoise...yes..turquoise! Darker leather will look best I think, but the important thing, especially for the saddle, is proper fit for you and her!

Love the name too!

She's quite adorable, shame about her forelock though. Definitely go with darker leather and a brighter saddle pad and wraps if you use them.

If you're calling her Sage, I'd definitely look for a sage-green saddle pad (or blanket, whatever they are in Western speak :p ) just for fun. :D

you know...sage green would look good on her as well!

A lot of colors will look good on her. Maybe open up her picture in MS Paint or some program and put slashes of color right next to her to see what compliments her best and you like the best and then go hunting for something like that?

Thanks everyone! I do have a Turqoise pad, I will see how that looks on her. Her quarantine is almost up, and I am very excited to start working with her :)

Turquoise is one of my favorite colors to use on horses if possible. I've got one pony who is black and white, so any color looks good on her, and the latest saddle blanket I bought her was turquoise. LOVE it.

She really beautiful and congrats on the new horse!
Are you a western or english rider? For english, I suggest a light chestnut leather english bridle with stitching, because the light color will contrast against her dark coat. For a bit, start with the gentlest one you can find, until a professional can show you which style is ideal. For an english saddle blanket, a simple quilted white with piping is elegant, and contrasting.
If you are a western rider, I dont know anything about western so......ya :P
