Went to a horse auction last night... sad

I went to a horse auction last night and it was just sad. Weanling babys were bringing 5$ most of which had papers. One was a blue roan & she only brought 15$. Yearling 25-35$. Most of these horses had two eyed jack, bartender, and some smoke blodlines. There were even 3 Phifer ranch bread horses. There was a mached pair of Haflinger geldings, one 6 and one 7, both trained to ride & drive, the pair brought 300$. With the prices I saw last night, I cant beleive anybody is breeding

It is sad. Some people just don't have sense to realize that breeding horses JUST to make money is pure lack of knowledge on their part.

Most people I know who breed their horses just want a "cute baby" and have no clue what the market is doing. They just have this vague idea that young horses can be sold for decent cash because breeders do it all the time so they can too. You also can't convince them otherwise, I've tried.

Then they put them on craigslist and wonder why they aren't selling... today here someone is trying to sell a grade weanling filly for 1000. Good luck on that, bud...

The market out there is strange. In the area I live in the horses are being given away or sold for 4,000$ or more. Our present horse was given to us. I would like to take another one but the cost of boarding is outrages most places is $500 or more most going to the cost of hay and other feed with extra charges for turn out. We have found a great place board is a little more then $300 and is out side unless extreem weather. She has her own box stall. I wish I was 30 years younger and had my own place I would have loved to had those babies to work with and train. What a waste.

That's why I don't go to those. Just pisses me off because it shows how stupid people are and it's frustrating because I can't help any of them.

Were they nice yearlings? Bloodlines mean diddly squat if the horse itself has nothing to show for it. That's the mistake a lot of "breeders" make. They produce some foal with a few good names in its pedigree and they think it's automatically worth a ton of money. People will never stop breeding as long as they can get their hands on fertile horses. Why? Because they're dead from the neck up. As Ron White would say, you can't fix stupid. :?

A lot of them were beautiful and a few were just junk. The one's that just killed me we the well put together, nice color & good dispotions, but still just couldn't get a bid on them. If I had the time to put into a baby, I could have cleaned house at those prices
