So today I had a bit of a scare!!
I was getting Oliver ready to ride and had him in the cross ties, he is an angel in the cross ties. I was wrapping his hind polos when suddenly the barn owners dog came bursting in throughbthe side door barking. This set my poor little guy off (while I'm bent over wrapping his legs!) Oliver spun around and pulled back. So now he facing the opposite way and he has managed to get the cross tie under his jaw and it's pulled tight around his neck...the stupid cross tie didn't break, he is practically sitting down, scrambling and being choked! His front legs where flailing around and his head jerking violently so I couldn't get in there to get him loose! (by the way the dog this whole time is at my horses butt growling and barking!!) the cross tie finally ripped and he was free, only to get full on blasted by the hardware snap in the face!
This is why if you cross tie your horse you should use the safety snaps, if a horse pulls back it releases and things like this do not happen! This cross tie was gerry-rigged with no safety snap, and from the hook eye in the wall the cross tie was snapped to a front blanket buckle! I did not happen to notice this as Oliver is a saint in cross ties! The way it was rigged up is why he almost strangled himself!
I was the only one there and called the barn owners, had to leve a message but locked the dog in a empty stall with a bucket of water so that was notbto happen again! I called my trainer (her day off) and explained what happend so she said she would talk to the barn owners ASAP and in person tomorrow to clear it up.
Now my poor guy is scared of dogs, was a little weary before but now hates them! Can't blame him though! Little skittish in the cross ties but amazingly not pulling back! Oliver has a rope burn on his throat latch arera goi g up to his poll, he was wheezing and coughing cause it got pulled so tight!
Anyways that's how my day was! How was yours!?
