Unknown leg problem

there is something wrong with my horse. He is refusing to walk.. When he eats he slowly (very slowly) takes steps forward. When I try to lead him he just won't move. I phoned the vet but she was unavalibal, and the assistant told us to put him in an area where he can't eat. with a bucket of oats and a halter, we tried to get him to leave his current pasture. it took us half-an-hour for him to go 10 ft. We couldn't get him to go any further.-usually he is all go. He loves to walk around, and he is fine with being lead. I did see that something was wrong with his right front leg (before his refused to walk), but he puts his weight on it like there is no problem. What's wrong with me horse?? :(

I would call a different vet and get someone out there ASAP.
Other than not walking, any swellings? Temp normal? What are his heart rate and respiration rate? Is he dehydrated? Press on his gums with a finger and count how long it takes for his gums to go back to a normal pink. (Were they a normal pink to start with?)
Heat in legs or feet?

Write all of these things down and talk to the vet about them as they will help to assess whether this is an emergency or not.

I'd definitely get another vet out there.

Did you get a vet out? How's he doing now?

lozfiddes 06-14-2008 04:43 PM

sounds like it could be laminitis!
does he have a strong digital pulse? :?

Hmmm, colic? Laminitis? Tendon injury? What ever happened to the vet?
