Is this the beginning of greying out??

Ok so this is probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. I just purchased a percheron TB cross mare who is 5 yrs old. I dont know what her dam/sire looked like as she is a PMU horse. She is black, however I'm noticing a few white hairs mixed in there. They are the most concentrated around her flank and there is a few white strands in her tail as well. I have mostly arabs and have seen them grey out, but not from a solid black and they usually started before age 5. Sorry about the pic but hopefully you get the idea.. What do you think? Is this the beginning of her greying out?

If she were a gray, she would have started graying out before age 5. Most coats have random white hairs mixed in, particularly red horses, though it's not unheard of for black horses.

Maybe she's developing a bit of a dapple.

Personally couldn't tell you... but I like how she has a frosted look, REALLY pretty.

No not a sign of greying out.

Tell her to stop growing those white hairs...

Black horses are sooo pretty!

My new stallion has a tun of white hairs but he is def not grey as his pedergree is black through and through

She looks like she's just developing some dapples. Usually horses start graying out by age 3, and the first light hairs are usually around their eyes and on their legs. I think your mare is going to be black for life. :)

Thanks :-) I have a bunch of greys so I ablsolutely love her black! Adds some pretty variety to my herd. Would be a shame to lose it.
