yes i did over react. but for the well being of my horse rant / fencing help
So this is my perdicament...and rant..... Didn't know where else to put it. Its a combo post :)
I was renting a farm and the situation was the owner of the property kept his livestock out there and sometimes I would help care for them but other times the land owner or his older sons (19 and 21) or his girlfiend and her small children would come out to do chores.. Not very private but I dealt with it.
So one day I came home and my Raisin was eating something out of his feeder. It ended up to be moldy corn. With a note taped on the fence "he looked hungry so I fed him" from the owners girl friend. And let me also note he is quite chubby as is and physically he does not look like he is hungry. I was furious but kept my cool and called up the owner of the property and kindly as I could put it... asked him to tell his family to not mess with my horse and not to feed him ANYTHING without my permission and with me being there.
Then my boy eventually started to get difficult about being caught in the pasture... and kinda anti social which is totally not like him. He loves people!
So then about 3 weeks ago my car was in the shop and the bf was at work (it looked as if no one was at home at my house) I was in the house and looked out the kitchen window because I heard yelling. And to my horror his 21 year old son and some friends were in the pasture with my lounging whip chasing him all over the pasture almost running him through the fences and throwing rocks at him and bribing him with treats to get closer just so they could do it again. Well good thing technology pays off I got it all on video well about 10 seconds because I was unbeleivably angry and hostile.
Well to make a long story bearable to read.... I ended up assaulting the land owners boy...ended up getting evicted from my farm(even though I was going to move to my old family farmhouse because I would rather live in a cardboard box than deal with that crap) and put in jail even though I had proof of what they did. Go figure. So now I am living in a crappy old house with no horse set ups except for a single wire temporary fence I put up and a corn crib for a temporary shelter. Mind you there is nowhere to board horses around here at all so we are dealing.
Was wondering what kind of fence to put up for permanent fence and a good charger that will not break the bank. I have a bobcat and a post hole impliment for it and free fence posts in tthe ditch I am able to take what I want. They are used but I'm on a tight budget.
I did it for the welfare of my boy and I do not regret it even though I did over react. I doubt they will mess with a horse like that ever again. I put the fear of god into that little punk.

And here is another one. Sorry for the excessive posting just wanted to give some exapmles of what I'm looking into
I don't know anything about fencing so I can't help you there, but good for you for protecting your horse.
Can't advise you on the fencing, but I sure hope you got in a few good licks with a lunge whip! I'm afraid I'd probably still be in jail, I have zero tolerance for Adam Henrys that want to abuse trusting creatures.
I would have done the same thing you did!!
What we use for fencing is a polywire tape... We use the 2 inch white, but there are tons of other options. I like the tape because its more visible then the plain polywire. And it looks really nice!

Your videotaping his abuse doesn't give you the right to physically assault him.
He's a scumbucket but now you have a criminal record of assault, and even though there are mitigating circumstances, the justice system takes a very dim view of someone going vigilante.
I'm sorry you're in this predicament, but you just can't go medieval on people and expect no backlash for your own actions.
I do wish you luck in getting your property properly fenced and your horse home with you.
The way I see it is your horse is your property and you were just defending it. You had every right to beat 'em to a pulp.
Well you live and you learn :) I wouldn't do a re-do if given the chance but that's me and my extreme motherly instinct for my horse.
And Sara do you have a problem with the wind whipping it?
