At what age would a horse be greyed out if it was going to happen?

Wondering if my red varnish mare is going to end up grey? I heard it starts at 3 but I havent found at what age it could be determined, I dont know what color she was born.
She is going to be 12 soon.
(got a pic where you can see her whole body, only one on this laptop.)
Thanks!
(sidenote : Not hating on greys, I love greys, just curious!)

Gray can start and finish even sooner than three. And you must have a gray parent to be a gray.

That mare's not gray. She is varnish, though, as you know. So she ought to continue to get lighter, anyway.

Varnish will most likely cause her to lighten slowly with age. My BM has a friend with an Appy gelding who was born black with a blanket. He's 20 now and, because of varnish, is almost entirely white.
