Lesser known types of horse competitions

I was just curious what all different kinds of competitions people are aware of (mixed-breed shows - not those that are limited to registered horses).

We all know the common ones, like hunter/jumper, Dressage, Western Pleasure, etc...
But what are some of the lesser known?

I do Judged Trail Riding.
I'd like to try Mounted Orienteering one of these days.
I've seen Horse Soccer done by one of the local clubs.

What other kinds of competitions have you seen or done, that most of us might never have heard of before?

Mounted shooting, Jousting, endurance rides, rodeo sports.

I saw something on YouTube. It's called horseball. Kind of a mix of polo, basketball, and maybe others.

Personally, I like to do the judged trail rides. Just can't find many around us

I saw one of these competitions and it looks great! So exciting in person, you get really into it. When I get my next horse I'm going to try and learn it. That an polocrosse, I've never really gotten into "horse games" but I think they could be really fun.

I would do regular orienteering first.

gymkhana is a term for speed pattern racing and timed events. polls, barrels, and key hole are typical examples of it. they are a lot of fun and not to hard to run even if your horse isn't trained specifically for it. i have a friend that hosts a show at her farm every month that is nothing but gymkhana and rodeo sports. some are run against other players and some are strictly best time.

There's "ride & tie" also.

"Other" horse activities

Here are a few different ideas that we have done over the years....

Cowboy Golf- American Cowboy Article, Russel Houston Prints, Gifts / prizes for this event

Ride & Tie- Here is the association link, but you can do your own "thing" with local track and running clubs.. and combine with horse clubs.

Cattle Drafting- Comes from Australia, to move cattle out of the cook camp without destroying the camp. We just set up "obstacles" and gave points to the team & time on a per head that went through the obstacles.. Works great with cattle that are burned-out on sorting and team penning!

Trail Trials / Trail Challenge- Rules and description of working obstacles.

Hunter Derby- We went back to my days and set a hunter course at different levels out in our event field. This was fun, few riders (hunters) now ride or jump outside of a arena.
