As winter approaches, the weather is quite cold and dry. The horses are getting very fuzzy but their coats are dry and full of static. Sadly, this is a problem because often when I reach out to give my little gelding a treat or a pet on the nose, he gets a shock. He is becoming very head shy and I don't know how to prevent it. I don't notice this with my other two horses, but do notice he drags his feet a little more than the others. Maybe I do to. I have tried using a coat conditioner when I groom him, but to use enough to make a difference, his coat has to get quite damp and it's cold. I also try to put hand lotion on my hands as often a possible because I also have dry skin. Will adding some flax to his diet help? If so, how much?
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to help put some more oil in his coat and reduce the amount of static between us? I am worried that by spring, I will have a horse that is so head and body shy he will be difficult to catch. :-(
Never heard of anything like this before! Subbing to find out too :)
