I think I saw a topic on this a while ago.. but I cant find it...
The farm that I was riding at didnt work out  , so Im shopping for a new place to ride, and came across this farm: http://www.taraonline.ca/ Its about 30 minutes from where I am living right now (will be moving closer in the next few months) and is only 10 minutes from my work.
The lesson prices range from $45 for a group and $60 for a private. I was just wondering if these are fair prices? The farm is located in Ajax, just outside of Toronto, so I know its going to be a bit more pricey up here.
Where Im from the max price you see for a lesson is $40 - and that is from a grand prix dressage coach. I was just wondering if these are fair prices? or should I keep looking?
Thanks for your reply :)
$40 bucks for a gp coach? Sign me up, that's an amazing deal! As long as the instructor is GOOD, I wouldn't mind paying those prices. I would expect someone with really solid knowledge and experience for that price.
Yup, $40! That was his price about a year and half ago - maybe 2 years.. so it has probably gone up, but still... I have been thinking about it a lot, and to drive home to have a lesson would probably cost me $45 with the gas. I emailed them, I think im going to go have a look and ask a lot of questions!
I havent looked for a lesson barn in a looong time, what are some questions that I should ask (aside from the obvious ones?)
Yeah, my lessons just recently went up for $35. ;)
That's a good question. I don't even know how much I pay actually. I had my horse in full training with my coach and i was taking lessons at the same time...I should look into this. :?
I'm paying $25 an hour, but I'm out in the middle of nowhere!
Actually, I want to add one thing: a quality lesson horse is as important as a quality instructor. If you aren't taking lessons on your own horse, a well-trained horse becomes essential the further you progress. I think its actually a lot harder to find instructors with good horse than just good instructors:P
I pay $30 for a 3 hour lesson (includes tacking up time). My lesson starts at 9 am and ends at 12 pm and sometimes later.
It's reasonible....most places I know charge $50 for an hour lesson whether it's a private or group lesson
I pay $25. My lessons are private and usually last an hour, sometimes more. If I'm not on my own horse I'm on my trainers horses, she has a training facility/sales barn so her horses are quality and well trained...
If I wasnt working for my lessons, I'd be paying 40 for my private lessons, and right now, I am on my instructor's huge horse for the time being, just to get acclimated. Once I get the basics down pact, hopefully we'll find a better horse so I can try my hand at some dressage training, although my Fritzy boy would be good at anything I think. lol.
