Cracked lips
 

I went out to ride today and noticed that Riley's lips have cracked along I guess the "top layer" of skin. It isn't just in the corners of the mouth where the bit sits but all along.

I'm guessing it's because of the hot, dry, windy weather we're having but I'm just interested in how to alleviate it.

I've read mixed things about using vaseline so would love to hear your opinions?

I know that when my horse's lips get sunburned, they crack. I mix half a bottle of teatree oil with vaseline to make a tea-tree gel and it works really well to heal cracking.

I've used bag balm on my own cracked hands, and on crust spots on my dogs nose. It works great. (Comes in a green tin, can get it most any drug store.)

Just slap some good ole' chapstick on there :-) No, just kidding, don't know what would happen. Like mentioned, I would try bag balm.
