Hair turning white, scaly stuff...what is this?

Hi
Can anyone look at these photos & tell me what is going on with my mare? This showed up a couple of months ago as a scabby place about the size of a penny when I first noticed it. My horses are always outside (never stabled) and so I figured she just bumped it or scraped it. Then after a few days I picked the scab off & the hair around it turned white. The white area is larger now, and there's a little residual scaly stuff, but no real lesion or anything. It's dry, not weepy and never was weepy or wet that I ever saw. It doesn't seem to bother her & none of the other horses have anything like it. It's right on the top of her hip.

This is my first time trying to add pictures from Photobucket, so if they don't come through, can someone help me??

It could be a saddle sore but I'm going to sub this thread and wait for other replies.

I don't think it's a saddle sore, because not even my saddle pad goes far enough back to hit this spot.

Aw, and dang it! I meant to post this in Horse Health, not Grooming. Sorry!
Thanks, Appy for getting the pictures for me. I really thought I did just what Skys said.

I think you Cut and pasted the part from the web address bar at the top. In photobucket on the right hand side (when viewing the picture) there are four options. Email/IM, Direct link, HTML and IMG. Click on the IMG spot and it should flash "Copied." You can then right click and paste it over here. :-)

That is weird with the hair turning white like that.Hair turning white there is usually some permanent damage to skin & under lying tissue, that has caused that color change. Most skin conditions don't cause de-pigmentation of hair like that:shock::?
