New horse, lots of questions!

My little nine year old cousion, Jayde, got her very first horse! She was so excited when we went to get her. Her name is Tamale, Molly for short. She is a 21 year old flea bit grey. She is a retired barrel racer, still knows her job pretty well...(hang on if you get in an alley) she used to be super pretty, long thick mane and tail. Her owner left her with someone for a while, she lost about 100 pounds and her hair is chewed off ha. She needs some TLC!

She was a joy to ride, very willing and calm. The woman gave us a twisted snaffle with shanks (idk?) and a wire nosebband for some ''woah''.. I put her in my smooth eggbutt snaffle single peice...perfect. Neck reinns like a dream! Anyway, to the questions!

She knows how to spin and side pass, how do you cue for that?

Her left knee is somewhat bbig and won't bend past a point, can that effect her?
Regrowing mane and tail?

And what can I do about a sway back?

Make sure you pad her up good on her back if she is sway back to keep from soreing her up. As for the knee, it can restrict certain movements and can cause tripping with the knee not being as flexable as it should been. Just watch the terrain that you ride her in. JMHO. Congrats on your new family member. These old souls are wonderful teachers for the young.

Did you get a vet check? I hope so....

Thanks, I had put quiite a bit of padding on her when I rode. We think its authritis in her knee. She is a very good teacher for Jayde, except on the way home she gets fast. And I would have gotten a vet check, but none of this was up to me, so no. No vet check
