Cashel Soft Saddles
I don't want to go into deep detail, but I just got diagnosed with a disease that is life long and basicly I have really thin skin that will tear and bruise very easily. The doctor told me I shouldn't ride as this can worsen the condition :( I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any exprience with a cashel soft saddle? I think that if it's soft enough it shouldn't cause me much harm. Do they work well, and are they worth the money?
I bought one then sold it. It is more a bareback pad than a saddle. The problem it that it has flaps, like an English saddle does, you know? The girthing is underneath the flaps. The flaps can move and roll upward and under your leg because ulike an English saddle, they are not stiff so they don't stay down like they should. So, when mounting (bareback style) with tummy on top of horse, then trying to squiggle your leg over and into the saddle, the near side flap got all scrunched kup under me and got in my way, getting on.
Also, the handle , for grabbbing on if you lose your balance, is practically UNDER your pubic area, not in front of you. It's not going to be any softer tan a saddle with a nice sheepskin pad or a gel pad and less secure, but far.
From what Tiny has said about that saddle, I would pass on it. A nice sheepskin pad over the seat is soft, I would try that. Let us know how you make out.
I seriously only rode in that thing once. The way it rolled under you was, in my opinion, a danger. And the rings for attacheing the stirrups (which I did not use) are right under your thigh, so would be very bruising.
Sorry to hear you have to deal with this health difficulty. That must be very distressing.
Sorry to hear about your condition! :(
What tiny said. I'd pass personally. If you need something soft under your bum go for the seat saver (and my be chaps too to cover your skin and prevent rubbing on saddle). I use one during a winter (the sheepskin from the Dover) and absolutely love it.
Those saddles are worthless, and not to mention, a tad bit ugly  I would pass.
Alright! Thanks for everyone's opinions. I wanted to know about them before I just went out and bought one since they're like over $200 :o And yes they are pretty ugly, ha.
What about this; Bareback Pad
I know nothing about them, but they look nice! :)
