Creating a healthy pasture?
Alright, so I'm fixing up some land I used alot time ago for my horses. The barn and everything is in great condition, but not the grass. Some people said they'd keep the property mowed and trimmed for me while I was absent but they haven't. That pasture used to be beautiful and green and now its... ewww. The burs are evident everywhere and the weeds choked all the good forage out. They trimmed town the pasture before I came thinking I wouldn't notice -_-
The grass is just gross really so any tips and what not to create the beautiful and healthy pasture it used to be?

Only thing I know of is to plow & reseed, aerates the ground. We have to do this with our pastures every so often, or it gets weeds & thistles taking over.

Contact your county agricultural agent and he'll probably mail you a packet of information that's made for your area. That will let you know what grasses grow best in your area.

According the the state of Tennessee, the single best thing you can do is mow. Mowing keeps the weeds low enough for the grass to take hold. Because of this, you might not need to spray a weed killer.

While it's late, I'd sow seed right now, planning to hit it again in the spring.

Mow it low, harrow it lightly, seed and fertilize it. Do the same thing again in the spring, and plan for it again each and every fall.

Submit a soil test to see what the land needs is another good idea.

Again, mow, mow, and mow.
