Biotin and mood swings
My mare has hoves that need a little work so I started adding a scoop (the one that comes with the container) per feeding. She is normally a moody horse so when she started acting even more so, I didn't think anything about it. Problem is that she is really changing the way she acts - and not for the better. Fortunately, it's on the ground and not under saddle. I'm attributing it to the Biotin since that is the only variable in the equation but I'm not sure.
My question is, has anyone who has used Biotin noticed any difference in their horse's behavior?
Fed it to several boarders horses over the years. Never noticed any difference.
Mine are all on a DAC supplement with Biotin in it, I've not noticed any mood or behavior changes since they've been on it. I'll gladly ask my farrier if he's heard of any cases like that when he comes Thurs if you'd like.
I've used it before as well without a problem. I guess I'm just looking for a reason for her attitude aside from being mareish.
My horse has been a biotin supplement for over a year. No personality change. I always go for Lyme disease when personality changes.
Just out of curiosity, do you know what the lyme test for horses is? I know for dogs it's a simple 4 in one snap test but I'm unfamiliar with the test for horses. In 13 years of owning horses I've only ever found a tick on one of them once, my dogs(and myself) is another story entirely lol
6 weeks into biotin supplementing, with no mood change in my mare.
Well the consensus is that it's not the Biotin. She has been off it for a few days now so I'll wait until the wekend and if there is no change, I'll put her back on it. In the meanwhile, I may give Biotin a call and give them a good laugh.
