Short video - 2nd time English
No super harsh critiques, it's only my second time english, same goes for the horse. She was having an off day today too... wouldn't hold any collection.
Funny how just switching to an English saddle changes your way of riding so much. I have seen you ride in several of your videos. you don't normally have your elbow locked like a board, with your hands pointing downward and your knee really stiff and feet jammed into the stirrup.
So, why do it here? This sounds really harsh and I am in a really bad mood today, so probably shouldn't press the "submit" button on this post, but I like the way your ride in your western saddle and see you as a rider with a lot of natural talent.
Relax, let your legs soften and carry the weight all the way down, don't lock your knee or ankle. Trot around a few times with the reins on a huge loop and work on keeping your arms up and with a bend in the elbow and postitioned almost exactly where you would if you were riding Western. Look up and just ride over the hrose and don't worry about contact at all for a bit.
then, when you take up the rein, keep the elbow soft, hands up and thumbs on top, pointing directly at the bit rings in your hrose's mouth.
Don't angle your feet out so much.
REally, just relax and ride more naturally, like you do any ol' day.
Thanks for your input, tiny :) You weren't harsh really by any means, even if you're in a bad mood. I'll be sure to try what you suggested next time I ride, but I may use a different horse and give my 3 year old's mind some time to relax.
wow, for your second time riding english thats pretty good! i live in the uk, so i've not tried western, but i can imagine it must be hard going from western to english! all i could say, it lift your heels up so you're feet are pretty much vertical to the ground, and move your legs back slightly :) and try to sit a little deeper in the saddle, and try not to hollow you're back. but other than that for a second time you're doing brilliant :)
